GFL Stat Leaders

STATS AND LEADERS

AFC

On the ground, Wheatley leads the AFC with 5.4 yards / carry, but his 1,294 yards is only 3rd in the conference. Tomlinson, to no surprise, leads with 1,920 yards; total yardage also with 2,438. His 14 rushing TD's tie Wheatley.

For people that get the ball from a QB, Jacksonville's Wilford leads in yards / catch at 21.8 average. Hopkins for the Texans leads receptions for 133 and total yards at an astonishing 1,747 - making him the league leader in both categories. Wayne of Indianapolis is 2nd in several categories, including tied with Hopkins for TD's at 13. Duper leads with 14 TD's.

Behind the center, QB's give the ball out, and there's a clear leader in every category. With a 117.2 rating, 69% completion, 6,325 yards and 58 TDs - breaking Peyton Manning's previous records of 55,477 yards and 55 TDs - Patrick Mahomes edges out the competition by a huge margin. Brady comes closest in 2nd place in every category except completion %.

Scoring for non-kickers is led by Martin (NYJ) with 108 points. But for kickers, Adam Vinatieri is the highest at 134 points; over 100 of which is in FG's alone. Field goal %, however, is a category led by McManus of Denver, who nailed 96% of his attempts - making him also the league leader.

With the astonishing yardage by Mahomes in the air and the #10 spot in rushing yards, the Chiefs' offense totaled over 8,200 yards, far surpassing any other team in the AFC, or in the league. The Patriots and Jets both exceed 6,800 yards for 2nd and 3rd spots. In addition to yardage, the Chiefs offense averaged 36.5 points / game for a whopping 584 yards total. The top rushing offense of course goes to the Chargers, with over 2,800 - also putting them as league leaders.

For defensive performers, Oakland's Thomas leads with 9 INT's and Ravens' Pryce has 12 sacks. The Bengals trio of Browner, Williams and Edwards are in the #8, 9 and 10 spots. The Steelers have the top overall defense, holding teams to an average 328.3 yards / game - an admittedly high number showing how high flying the AFC offenses are. The Steelers are in the 2nd and 3rd place with most categories;. The Bills and Texans are in the #2 and #3 spots overall. All 3 teams also hold most top spots in rushing Defense, but the Ravens lead in 1st place, holding teams to just under 83 yards / game.

Perhaps the most astonishing statistic is that the the leading pass defense is also the team with the leading pass offense - the Kansas City Chiefs. Holding teams to just 228.5 yards / game and an average of 53.3% completion, they should prove to be a challenge. The Bills defense leads in fewest points / game, however, at 17 on average. The Jets defense has the highest TO margin at 1.1

NFC

In rushing, Marshall Faulk averages 5.6 yards / carry - the league high. At 1,640 rushing yards, he just edges out Green Bay's Green - who is 2nd and 3rd in several categories. But the #1 spot for rushing yards overall goes to Shawn Alexander, who, in 381 carries, racked up 1,929 yard - just 9 more than Tomlinson. This puts him as the lead rusher in the league. Alexander is 2nd in rushing TD's with 23 - Faulk just edges him out at 24. Overall, Faulk still leads all-purpose yardage at 2,735 - which is also several hundred more than Tomlinson, leading the league overall.

For receiving, Gray averages 21.9 yards / catch, several yards higher than the nearest competitors like Schroeder (GB) and Pearson (DAL). This also puts him as a league leader. Bruce, from the Greatest Show on Turf (LAR), has 1,455 yards receiving, leading that category and coming in just shy of 1st place in total receptions with 105. Jerry Rice is the leader there at 110. Freeman for Green Bay has 17 receiving TD's, leading both the conference and league, setting him far above his closest competitors.

In the QB realm, Kurt Warner's QB rating of 100 leads the NFC. Warner also tossed up 5,350 yards in the air - over 900 more than his nearest rival - Brett Favre. Favre, however, edges out Warner for TD throws at 39 to 34. Steve Young, who had the 2nd highest QB rating (91+) was the most accurate passer at 66.8% - just 0.2% higher than Warner.

For overall scoring points, the Beast aka Marshall Faulk has a whopping 204 points from his 24 rushing TDs and 10 receiving TD's. This puts him ahead of everyone else in the league by over 60 points. The highest scoring kicker for the NFC, and the league, Washington's Mosely - who hit 150 points. Of his 48 FG attempts, he hit 79% - nowhere near Carney's 92%, which makes the NYG kicker the most accurate.

In total offense, the Packers fare well in 2nd place with 430 yards/game average, but the Rams far exceed that at under 500 yards/game - at over 7,900 total. With 2,583 of that rushing, they are near the top. However, the Buccs lead by about 20 more yards at 2,606. In the air, however, the Rams clearly steal the #1 spot with 5,350 yards - an average over 334 / game. Their combined efforts yield an average of 37 points / game as well - just slightly higher than Mahomes and the Chiefs.

The Lions' Lebeau has 12 INTs for the year, leading the NFC and the league. His colleague Barney has 8 - making a deadly combo. In the d-line, Swilling of NO leads with a phenomenal high 16 sacks, but 3 Cowboys share some of the remaining top 9 spots. With White having 15, Gregory at 12 Martin at 11 - it's clear which defense you don't want to hang on to the ball with if you're a QB.

For all the sacks and picks, it's the Redskins who come up with an amazing TO margin of 2.1. Gaining 67 TOs and only losing 33, they fare much better than the Lions - who, despite giving up 76, lost 63. The Eagles, while just 2nd place against the rush, turn out overall with the top defense. Holding teams to just under 324 yards/game, their rush defense only allows about 106 of that. That puts them several yards/game ahead of others. The top rushing defense is Dallas - keeping QB's to an average of 211 yards/game. The Giants and Saints each allow teams to just under 18 points / game, with the Giants slightly edging out NO at 17.6
