Legendary Bowl

Image
'07 New England vs. '98 Atlanta The big day is here. From the beginning of the season, every NFL team has put all their resources into seeing this day come to fruition. The best seasons for each franchise have competed for over 20 weeks, and only 2 teams have consistently caused trouble for their opponents for several weeks in a row now. Both the '98 Atlanta Falcons and '07 New England Patriots clash in this first ever Legendary Bowl. The Falcons have destroyed their opposition all post-season, putting them in a favorable position for today's match after avoiding a showdown with the Packers on a Carolina upset. Their defense has made even the greatest of all time struggle to score. And in the '98 season, the Falcons had a huge win over Brady's team. But nobody is ignorant of New England's accomplishments with Tom Brady. He has come through for his team when it counted, and fought hard to land on top of the AFC East (ahead of 2 other powerhous...

'07 New England vs. '99 Jacksonville Last week, the Patriots just squeezed by the Jets, but their entire franchise reputation comes down to what they do this week. Facing off against the top seeded '99 Jaguars, who had an easy time last week, New England shouldn't be expecting an easy game. Despite expectations, they made things look easy the first half. Jacksonville had several chances at the ball but could not get points on the board. Meanwhile, while Brady wasn't tossing TD passes left and right, he was making first down throws and setting up for several Gostkowski kicks. Up by 9, the Patriots would get a rushing TD from Faulk before wrapping up the half. Despite a 16-0 deficit at halftime, as a top playoff team a Jacksonville win was not out of the realm of possibility. However, we've rarely seen this team behind; they win based on dominating their opponent. So as they scored on an early 3rd quarter possession, things started to look up. But despite ...

'15 Carolina vs. '62 Green Bay The Panthers, off the heels of a win in Seattle, travel to Lambeau field to face the giant of the league, the '62 Packers. Only 3 teams have hurt the Packers - Chicago, Oakland and Kansas City. But with an 8-game win streak and a bye, the Panthers will have a tough battle ahead. The Panthers picked up an early TD to start off the game on a Newton-Olsen throw. But when Bart Starr immediately retaliated with a 59 yard throw to McGee, fans were sure they were in for one of the best games of the year. For the next 45 minutes, they would discover just how wrong they were. Despite Green Bay being a favorite for going all the way, the Panthers would be the only team putting points on the scoreboard for several quarters. Despite the Pack putting up several good drives, the Panthers D put a stop to each one. On the other hand, Green Bay seemed unable to stop Carolina, especially Jonathan Stewart. Despite only running for 60 yards, Stewart woul...

'68 NY Jets vs. '00 Ravens Just 3 weeks ago these teams faced off in regular season, and the Jets were victorious. With a championship shot in sight, would Namath and company repeat? Or would Baltimore's defense over power? For the first half of the game, Baltimore defense was definitely too powerful for NY. They held the Jets from scoring any points. Meanwhile, the Ravens' rushing attack was helping set up for a pair of FG's, giving the Ravens the 6-0 advantage at half. Things looked worse when Jamal Lewis ran for a Baltimore TD early in 3rd quarter to put the Ravens up 13-0. But at this point Namath began to open up his passing game some. He was able to get in scoring range, and Bozer would run in the first Jets TD halfway through the 3rd quarter. Later, Namath would hit Maynard for a 40 yard TD catch to give the Jets the lead. The NY defense would continue to hold off Baltimore for the 4th quarter, and after a pair of FG's to top off some other good ...
