Week 7 - Thursday

'69 Kansas City vs. '97 Denver

The Chiefs traveled to Mile High Stadium to take on the Broncos in a showdown between two teams that have simple struggled to win this season. Both teams are 1-5, and both teams are at the bottom of the AFC West. The team that gets a win could still have some hope at a long shot for the playoffs.

The Chiefs would take the opening kickoff, and Dawson would put together a great drive, pushing down the field to setup for a 14 yard run by McVea for a TD. When Elway got his chance, he found himself picked off by Kansas City, foreshadowing the struggle he would have all game to score.

Lucky for Elway, Denver's defense held off Dawson for the rest of the 1st quarter, giving him a shot to get in range for an Elam FG from 37 yards out. But Dawson quickly adapted with the help of Garrett, who brought in a 2 yard TD to put Kansas City up 14-3.

That drive somehow set Elway on fire, who worked just inside the 2 minute warning to put together a phenmonel drive. He'd have success hitting McCaffrey several times, finally finding him for 35 yards to bring home 7 points. With Denver getting the kick in the 3rd quarter, things were looking up for the Broncos.

However, they would go 3 and out a few times, and after an astonishing 66 yard run by McVea, the Chiefs found themselves with the momentum they needed to increase their lead 21-10 on a run by Garrett.

Despite Elway being picked on an end zone pass the next drive, he did find his way back to the red zone, where Davis ran 8 yards for the TD. As the 2 minute warning was approaching, a 4 point lead seemed possible for the Broncos to take over. But Dawson came up huge once again, finding Richardson for a 30 yard throw, setting up for another McVea win.

McVea had a big day, running for 141 yards in just 9 carries, giving him an outstanding 15.7 average. But the Chiefs had help from all their runners, totaling a whopping 344 yards, bringing a big help to Dawson, who was able to pass just enough to throw Denver off. Denver only managed 229 yards offense total, practically half of the Chiefs' 462 yards.

So to no surprise, the Chiefs win over the Broncos by a final score of 28-17.
