Week 7 - Monday
'07 New England vs. '68 NY Jets
Tonight's game is an AFC East showdown between the #2 and #3 teams. Each has 4 wins so far in the year, but NY has had a bye week already. Both teams are 2-1 against the AFC, but the Jets are on a 2 game win streak right, where New England is coming off a difficult loss from last week. The Jets would elect to receive, but it would be 10 minutes in before any team would find a way to score, after several 3 and outs. Brady, who put together a great drive with some throws to Moss, found himself fought off at the 15 and settling for 3 from a still perfect Gostkowski.
The remainder of the 1st quarter would see back-to-=back turnovers, with Brady being picked But it wouldn't take much for Brady to retaliate with a 28 yard throw to Welker, setting up for an easy TD pass to Gaffney.
Despite playing great defense, picking off Brady again and holding him for the quarter, Namath just couldn't quite get the big plays we saw from him in last week's win. The Patriots keep the Jets shut out at the half, 10-0.
In the 3rd quarter, the Jets continued to struggle against a tough Patriots defense, but Brady had no problems picking apart the Jets with every weapon he could, getting in range for another FG in the 3rd quarter to put Namath in a 2 score deficit.
The Patriots would then go up 7 more after a crucial pass interference put Brady just yards from the end zone. And by now, you probably know the story. At 27-0, Brady had to make little effort to finish off NY with just 1 quarter to go. As the Patriots loosened up, the Jets tried to keep from being shut out, but to add to their embarrassment was a missed FG.
Speaking of embarrassment, the Jets had 10 penalties on the day for 96 yards. And Joe Cool was not quite so, only hitting 13 of 31 for 140 yards. As a team, they converted to 1st down just 7 times. On the other hand, Brady completed twice as many throws with 313 yards on the day and 3 TDs. As a team, they grabbed the 1st almost 4 times as much, showing just how calculating Brady can be.
Neither team put together too many carries, so ultimately for Joe to come up short means he'll have some strategy to come up with for next time..
So New England goes home happy with a 34-0 shutout over the Jets at Shea Stadium.
